RISK STATEMENT
Maiden Gully faces a range of emergency risks driven by its bushland setting, rapid residential growth and increasing road traffic.
While Maiden Gully is not a major riverine‑flooding township,
localised flash flooding can occur along drainage lines and
low‑lying road dips, temporarily isolating pockets of the
community.
Like many parts of Bendigo, much of the community interfaces with significant tracts of Box-Ironbark forest (including the Bendigo Regional Park) that creates elevated bushfire risks during summer. Residential fires are a risk throughout the year. Fire activity and vehicle crashes can result in congestion and road closures.
Severe storms and strong winds frequently cause treefall, power outages, and blocked roads, affecting both mobility and access to emergency information. Mobile‑coverage blackspots and network congestion during peak events reduce the reliability of warnings, reinforcing the need for early action and multiple information sources. Heatwaves pose additional risks for elderly residents, outdoor workers, and households without adequate cooling.
Together, these factors make Maiden Gully a community where awareness and preparation are essential. Residents are strongly encouraged to understand their local risks, prepare a personal emergency plan, and act early. A well-informed,
well-prepared community is the single most effective defence against the dangers our region faces.
