The Members of the Maiden Gully Progress Association were excited with the recent press release announcing:  “$510,000 TO PLAN FOR FUTURE WORKS AT MAIDEN GULLY PRIMARY SCHOOL” This media release was made on behalf of local state Parliamentary member, Maree Edwards, State Member for Bendigo West.

Having learnt that our local primary school had been knocked back on a major upgrade in 2010 and that ever since requests have fallen on deaf ears, there was need for action. At that time, the school enrolment was 415 whereas today it is 570. From our research, the predictive enrolment for the year 2030 for Maiden Gully Primary school would range between 710, or 816. Most classrooms are currently portables, whose general environment is not conducive to modern day teaching practice. As the media release points out, ‘“There is an obvious need for more permanent buildings and upgrades to the outdoor areas.”

We have appreciated the opportunity of working closely with the current Principal, Craig Arrowsmith and our State Local Member, Maree Edwards to help improve the Educational Facilities for our local students. We look forward to continuing this close association.

This announcement, of funding to plan future works, is seen as the first step towards the eventual granting of a Major Works Contact to upgrade the school.

John R Storey,
President; Maiden Gully Progress Association.
