The Members of the Maiden Gully Progress Association were excited with the recent press release announcing: “$510,000 TO PLAN FOR FUTURE WORKS AT MAIDEN GULLY PRIMARY SCHOOL” This media release was made on behalf of local state Parliamentary member, Maree Edwards, State Member for Bendigo West.
Having learnt that our local primary school had been knocked back on a major upgrade in 2010 and that ever since requests have fallen on deaf ears, there was need for action. At that time, the school enrolment was 415 whereas today it is 570. From our research, the predictive enrolment for the year 2030 for Maiden Gully Primary school would range between 710, or 816. Most classrooms are currently portables, whose general environment is not conducive to modern day teaching practice. As the media release points out, ‘“There is an obvious need for more permanent buildings and upgrades to the outdoor areas.”
We have appreciated the opportunity of working closely with the current Principal, Craig Arrowsmith and our State Local Member, Maree Edwards to help improve the Educational Facilities for our local students. We look forward to continuing this close association.
This announcement, of funding to plan future works, is seen as the first step towards the eventual granting of a Major Works Contact to upgrade the school.

The Maiden Gully Early Years Hub is progressing quickly, with recruitment plans well underway!
Thank you to Shine Bright for their latest progress update.
Over the past four years I have enjoyed getting to know Maiden Gully better. I have enjoyed speaking at the Lions Club Australia Day Breakfast celebrations and, as Deputy Mayor, speaking at your Community Carols and also launching the Maiden Gully Community Plan. Weather hasn’t been kind to us at that time of the year, but hopefully COVID-19 restrictions will see some celebration this year, even in a modified form.
I have attended many MGPA meetings, including during the development of your Community Plan and as the idea for a Maiden Gully Autumn Festival developed. I have been an active participant in planning for the Festival. It is a shame that the inaugural Festival was cancelled this year due to COVID-19. Lets hope it can go ahead in 2021.
